The reason for GFY existence is purely the need to call out individuals who consistently practice asshole tactics resulting in negative financial, emotional, or physical results for you. Find three common tactics used by experienced assholes outlined below.
- MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY- Very dangerous if you are involved in this type of discussion you either agree and act happy or your out of a job (danger level 10)
- USE REAL WORLD EVENTS AS REASONS FOR ACTION - This tactic can be used to explain why you were not promoted, when the real reason may be that your manager was busy self promoting and did not want your promotion approval competing with his. This message is delivered using words such as... thanks for the hard work, your contributions allowed the project to be successful but due to the condition of the economy your promotion was not approved (danger level 5)
- BAIT AND TRAP - If you show enthusiasm and passion a figure of authority may push/encourage you to try something "heroic" knowing that your skills and resources are not enough to accomplish desired results. Once committed you are trapped into delivering results at your own cost or your employees costs either way someone other than your manager will be taking the heat when failure is reported (danger level 7)
If you find yourself a victim of one of the tactics above hopefully you can maneuver quickly to avoid a potential career limiting stain and record a valuable lesson learned. If you are pissed off and feel wronged keep it to yourself, expressing your feelings publicly will only dig a deeper hole to bury you in.
